The medical floor is a 26 bed unit that provides exceptional care to adult patients. The most common diagnosis on the medical floor are patients with respiratory, cardiac, and sepsis diagnosis. In addition to the medical patients this unit provides care to observation patients. These patients are hospitalized for a shorter period of time.
Working with department manager, the RN - Shift Lead I provides leadership and clinical expertise on their respective shift and department. They are accountable for coordination of unit resources to ensure that staffing to census and acuity is appropriate both clinically and financially. They function as clinical support for staff and are a role model of competency and professionalism.
This is a part time day shift position, working one 12 hour shift per week.

Scope
- Supervises and/or provides direct patient care. Assist and support staff in responding to and problem solving situations related to patient/ family complaints, Physician concerns, risk management, associate safety, and Hospital safety.
- Respond to patient emergencies as needed. Responds as the charge or lead person for disasters.
- Collaborates with the staffing office and adjust numbers of staff for census changes during the shift.
- Communicates with the oncoming Charge Nurse about census, staffing, pending admissions and discharges, any problems she/ he needs to be aware of, and any patient information that will be helpful in making assignments.
- Supports unit management team in managing department productivity/staffing and timekeeping, and coordinating unit activities.
- Participates in hospital committees as unit representative as needed.
- Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.
- May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BSN Degree* from an accredited program required within 4 years unless 15 years of acute care service.
- * Failure to obtain a BSN degree within this time frame may result in suspension or termination of employment. Nurses employed by the Hospital on or before September 1, 2014 with only an ASN/ADN, will be exempt from the requirement to obtain a BSN. Any nurse hired by the hospital from September 2, 2014 through April 15, 2019 will have 5 years / 60 months from date of hire to obtain a BSN. Any nurse who takes legally protected leave during any of the completion periods may have the period extended by a comparable amount of time.
- Current State of Montana Registered Nurse License
- BLS Certification upon hire.
- National Certification in area of practice
- Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to achieve patient-focused outcomes.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze, interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or regulatory agencies.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
- Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required.
